The Art of the Slow-Down on Vacation: Finding Magic in Your PJs

We often think of vacations, especially those involving our favorite mouse, as a marathon of rope drops and late-night fireworks. But what if the most magical part of your Disney trip was the time you spent doing absolutely nothing?
As a travel advisor, I often advocate for the "resort-heavy vacation". There is a special kind of luxury in making choices that allow you to stay in your pajamas while still feeling like you are in the heart of the action. Here are three of my favorite ways to lean into the slow-down, all of which I had the pleasure of trying out on my recent 10 year wedding anniversary trip. And yes, they were worth the splurges to make an unforgettable trip.
Garden Serenity at Disney’s Boardwalk
For those who want proximity to the Walt Disney World parks without the constant hustle, a Garden Suite with Club Level Access at the Boardwalk Inn is a hidden gem. We started our special trip here specifically to take advantage of the peace and quiet these gorgeous spaces offer and were the perfect way to unwind and start our vacation.
The PJ Experience: These suites feel like your own private cottage. With two floors of space, a whirlpool just off the bedroom and access to all the Club amenities, you can relax in style. You can enjoy the peace of your own love themed garden space while being just a short walk or boat ride from the excitement of the Boardwalk, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios.
The Club Perk: The Innkeeper’s Club offers dedicated concierge services and daily refreshments, ensuring your stay is as seamless as it is relaxing. Make sure to try one of their signature cocktails for a tasty treat topped with the sweetest rubber duck!
Why It Works: You get the charm of a 1940s Atlantic City-style resort with the exclusive quiet of a gated garden, offering the best of both worlds.
Veranda Views on the Disney Treasure
One of the newest additions to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure, offers an incredible opportunity for what I call "stateroom sanctuary". With so much to offer in the way of activities, sometimes cruisers forget to take advantage of the slow side of cruising. We loved having the ability to explore with our home base just a few decks away if we needed to recharge!
The PJ Experience: There is nothing quite like ordering room service and enjoying a quiet meal on your private veranda. On a cruise, the scenery is constantly shifting, providing a live-action painting to enjoy from the comfort of your room. Or turn on your stateroom tv for a full menu of Disney classic movies to choose from while you lounge after a fun filled day!
The Perk: The Treasure is designed with luxury and relaxation in mind, offering adult-only spaces and high-end amenities that encourage you to set your own pace. With room service included, it’s easy to stay in your PJs for a little quiet time away from the hustle of the cruise activities.
Why It Works: It removes the need for transportation or logistics. Your world is your stateroom and the ocean beyond it.
Savanna Sunrises at Animal Kingdom Lodge
If you love the idea of waking up to animals roaming right outside your window, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is your sanctuary. While any Savanna View room offers this, opting for Club Level Access at the Kilimanjaro Club takes it to another level. We didn’t think we could love our favorite Disney resort more, but experiencing the luxury of Club Level made us fall in love all over again.
The PJ Experience: Imagine sitting on your balcony in your Disney provided robe, coffee in hand, watching a giraffe wander by as the sun hits the savanna.
The Club Perk: The Kilimanjaro Club Lounge provides a continental breakfast, snacks, hors d'oeuvres, a dessert and cordial hour, plus adult beverages including a beer, wine and a small selection of cocktails all day long. It’s the perfect excuse to skip the morning rush and just be at one with the nature outside your balcony.
Why It Works: With over 200 animals and 30 species calling the resort home, the entertainment comes to you. You don't need to put on shoes to experience the wonder.
