Disney fashion doesn't have to mean head-to-toe character costumes. In fact, some of the most fun Disney outfits are the ones that are a little more subtle.
This is known as Disney Bounding.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, Disney Bounding is essentially the art of putting together an everyday outfit inspired by a favorite Disney character. Think of it as dressing like a character without the typical character costume.
You can make your outfit incredibly obvious, or do a subtle nod to a character, the choice is yours to make. For some people, Disney Bounding is a full vacation activity and planned weeks, if not months, in advance. For others, it's simply a fun way to make their park outfit a little more interesting.

What Exactly Is Disney Bounding?
The basic idea is to choose a Disney character and use their signature colors, details or overall look as inspiration for your outfit.
For example, a Mickey-inspired outfit could use black, red and yellow. A Cinderella Bound might involve light blue, silver and white. A Peter Pan outfit could be built around green and brown. The possibilities are endless!
How to Get Started
If you aren't sure where to start, may we suggest first selecting a character and color? This about your upcoming magical trip itinerary... where are you dining? Any particular rides or areas that you want to focus on? You don't need a complicated outfit or a closet full of Disney merchandise. Pick a character, look at their most recognizable colors, and build from there.
First, check your closet. You may already have everything you need. Start with a basic piece of clothing in one of your character's main colors. Then build around it. A pair of shoes, a handbag, earrings, a bow or a pair of ears can completely change the look. Accessories are especially useful if you want to keep things subtle.

Disney Bounding can be a family affair!
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Disney Bounding is fun, but you're still spending the day at a theme park. Which means there are a few practical considerations.
Comfort matters: You're going to walk a lot. Those adorable shoes might look great at 8 a.m. and feel like a terrible life decision by 2 p.m. If you are truly committed to the look, having a bag that has extra shoes or outfit pieces is a great option or you can even rent a locker if you want to do a full clothing swap.
Florida weather: Depending on the time of year, lightweight, breathable clothing is usually going to serve you better than a complicated outfit with multiple layers. Trust us. Less is more.
Think about your park or cruising plans. If you're planning a long day, prioritize comfortable shoes and clothing. Save the more elaborate outfit for a shorter park day that is slower with lots of stops for photos, a table service meal with characters, or a resort day where your bound fits in perfectly. Disney cruises have themed lounges that are perfect for bounding, so these are great opportunities to go all out!
Think outside the box: Bounding is not just for your basic Disney characters. Step into the Marvel Universe or even use the force in a galaxy far, far away!
The Best Part of Disney Bounding?
There really isn't a right or wrong way to do it. You can spend months planning coordinated outfits for your entire family, or you can realize the night before your park day that your closet contains the perfect colors for Tinkerbell.
The goal is simply to have fun with your Disney outfits and find a way to incorporate characters you love without having to wear an actual costume.
