Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour
Contributed by Paige Landrum
For my sister’s 16th birthday, my mom and I took her on a birthday trip that included a Keys to the Kingdom Tour. This is a 5-hour tour that includes seeing parts of backstage in Magic Kingdom, entering the famous utilidors underground, and learning more about Walt Disney World’s history. While I won’t ruin the whole tour for you, I will hit some highlights.

Our tour started at 8:00 am, so we left our resort around 6:45 am via a Minnie Van, and got to spend some time on an empty Main Street, Starbucks coffee in hand. We went in October, so the weather was crisp, and the Halloween decor was illuminating. At 8 o’clock we reported to our meeting location to meet our guide and other tour members. During check-in we submitted our lunch order.
The tour began with some key points on Main Street starting by the entrance and making our way towards the castle, before turning into Adventureland. We spent a good portion of time seeing backstage in this land and learning history about a fan favorite attraction. We made our way to Liberty Square, and stopped for lunch at Columbia Harbour House, where our order was ready for us as we arrived. Lunch was included with the price of the tour and included an entree, side, drink, and dessert, which were two chocolate covered Oreos boxed nicely and almost too cute to eat.
After lunch, we hopped on our second attraction for another history lesson before heading to what people seem to be the most interested in- the utilidors, aka “underground tunnels.” We spent a good bit of time here learning more about how and why they were built, the directions they go, and more Disney history. This was a great time to “people watch” as we were in a busy hallway with cast members coming and going through all exit doors. The tour ended as we entered Main Street via the utilidor, where we gathered to say goodbye to our guide and new tour friends.
It is important to keep in mind that this is a walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes. You also are not allowed to have your phone out during the tour, and absolutely no pictures backstage. We were given headsets so we could better hear our tour guide as we walked around the park. Participants must be 16 years or older to take this tour.
I personally thought the Keys to the Kingdom Tour was not only a great experience, but also a great value, as it included two rides during the tour, lunch, and a keepsake gift. If you are fascinated with Disney history, this is an excellent option to enhance your day at Magic Kingdom.
Wild Africa Trek
Contributed by Becky Cain
For my 40th birthday in 2023, I opted to go out of my comfort zone and try something new that I’ve had my eye on for years - the Wild Africa Trek in Animal Kingdom. So I grabbed my buddy and off we went! This is a 3 hour, privately guided tour of exotic African wildlife. The first step was gearing up - we had to leave anything that wasn’t attached to our bodies in secure lockers, then we were put into climbing harnesses by Disney cast members and given vests to attach our water bottles, phones and name tags to!

After we were given our safety instructions, we got to hike right into the back of the hippo area to meet another cast member who takes care of them to hear all about these incredible creatures. We even got to go up above where the hippos were sleeping by clipping our harnesses into a safety line - good thing too, since hippos are notoriously territorial and would not have welcomed any of us falling into their enclosure!

From there we hiked a little further into the exhibit until we came to an impressive bridge structure spanning not only the hippo exhibit but also the Nile Crocodile exhibit next door. Cast members helped us get our safety harness hooked up, took our pictures and sent us off across the suspension bridge one at a time. From our height, we had incredible views of the hippos and crocs sunning and swimming in the waters below. Oh and if that wasn’t thrilling enough, every few feet there are some missing boards to add a little extra excitement to your adventure. The cast members warned us that if we slipped crossing the bridge, it would be the shortest Tower of Terror drop because our harnesses would pull us right back up.
Confession: I got a little excited at one point and did just that! It was exhilarating, but not something I’d want to repeat! You can see my face when the photographer caught my reaction to falling.
After all that excitement, we got to take our very own private safari ride through the Savanna with our tour guides stopping to see all the animals up close and personal. Then the last stop was to a beautiful viewing deck where we were given incredible African inspired snacks and POG juice while we watched the savanna animals at our leisure.

I highly recommend this experience for anyone who’s looking for:
A little extra adventure in their trip

Below is a testimonial from an A Mouse and a Beach client who took their daughter to this experience last fall!
“It was incredible! I would do it again a thousand times over. It was worth every penny. When you walk in, they asked my daughter if she wanted me to call her “her majesty” or “queen” or “princess” and they called her that the entire time. She got to be in charge of the whole thing. Which princess she wanted to be, which dress she wanted, & the fairy godmother in the dressing room aspect she loved. The hair and makeup was beyond too. There was a Disney photographer there the whole time which I had no idea about but was so thankful they were there to capture it! Then she got a sash, the lip gloss they used on her and even a necklace! Then we went across to Sir Mickey's and got pics done right after! They really took their time with her getting as many poses as we wanted. We did not wait very long. She even had to go potty halfway through and they were totally fine to wait for us to get back.” - C. Galyon

This experience would be ideal for the little one in your family if you are wanting to add a once in a lifetime experience to your Walt Disney World vacation. It will be sure to make them feel special the entire day and they will talk about it for a long time. I foresee core memories to be made!
