On-Site Magical Disney Stays: Old Key West

Disney's Old Key West Resort

Contributed by: Paige Landrum

My family is a beach family, through and through. We live 30 minutes from the ocean and our favorite vacations are typically near a body of water, spent with a lot of relaxing down time. So when I say the vibe at Disney’s Old Key West Resort matches our family perfectly, it couldn't be more true.

Disney's Old Key West Resort

Old Key West is a deluxe villa resort at Walt Disney World that offers a quiet, relaxing atmosphere just a short boat ride away from Disney Springs. With its tropical landscaping, pastel buildings, and laid-back vibe, this resort feels like a true escape from the busy parks. Spacious rooms, scenic views, and a slower pace make it an ideal choice for families wanting to recharge between park days.

Resort Theming

Old Key West channels the charm of the Florida Keys. Imagine palm trees, white picket fences, peaceful waterways, and the kind of porch swings that make you want to slow down and take it all in (and if you’re like me, with a cup of coffee in hand). The whole resort feels like a quiet coastal neighborhood, complete with golf course views and walking trails.

It’s easy to forget you’re at Walt Disney World when you’re here. Whether you're sipping coffee on your balcony or teeing off for a round of golf, Old Key West invites you to slow down and enjoy your vacation at a gentler pace.

Room Types

Old Key West offers some of the largest accommodations on property. Whether you're a family of four, traveling with extended family or a group of friends, there is a layout for everyone.

Deluxe Studios: Includes two queen beds, a kitchenette, and a private balcony or patio. Sleeps 4.

One, two, and three bedrooms are also available and include a full kitchen, spacious living area, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. These truly are as big as apartments, ensuring everyone has enough space to be comfortable. Two and three bedroom villas are perfect for larger families or multi-generational trips.

1-Bedroom Villas: Includes 1 King bed, 1 Queen-Size sleeper sofa, and 1 twin-size sleeper chair. Sleeps 5.

2-Bedroom Villas: 1 King bed, 2 queen beds, and 1 queen-size sleeper sofa. Sleeps 9.

3-Bedroom Grand Villas: 1 King bed, 2 Queen beds, 2 double beds, 1 queen-size sleeper sofa, and 1 twin size sleeper chair. Sleeps 12 adults.

Another pro I love is every villa comes with a balcony or patio. I'm a big "morning coffee/evening wine on the porch" person, so being able to get open air is something I always look for in a resort.

These rooms are ideal for longer stays or for families needing space for nap time, early bedtimes, or dining in. The washer/dryer in the villas can also be a game-changer if you’re trying to pack light or traveling with toddlers.

Resort Facts: Dining Options, Pools, Transportation

Dining:

Olivia’s Café is the table service restaurant on site and feels like a favorite neighborhood spot. You’ll find Southern-inspired comfort food here, like fried chicken, conch fritters (served with key lime mustard!), and shrimp and grits. It's especially well-known for its brunch, which is now a family favorite for us.

Goods Food to Go offers quick service options including sandwiches and salads. This is great for a bedtime snack or a quick breakfast before heading to the parks.

Turtle Shack Poolside Snacks is available seasonally and offers light bites and drinks near one of the quiet pools.

Gurgling Suitcase is the resort's Key West-style bare with drinks and small plates. If you’re here, the Turtle Krawl is a must try drink- I like to enjoy mine with a plate of pulled pork nachos!

Pools:

The Sandcastle Pool is the feature pool and includes a waterslide, hot tub, and a sandy play area for little ones.

There are also three leisure pools scattered throughout the resort, each with its own whirlpool spa.

Transportation:

Bus service is available to all four theme parks. There are multiple internal bus stops around the property, so it helps to know which area you're staying in for the most efficient route.

Due to the size of the property, we advise you to make a plan and learn which way the buses go in the mornings and what stop number you are so you can plan accordingly. The front desk will have this information.

Water taxi service to Disney Springs is another one of the reasons I love this resort. The ride is scenic and peaceful, and it drops you right in the heart of Disney Springs.

Because of the size of the resort, walking can take a little longer than some smaller properties, however if you read my love for Port Orleans Riverside, you may remember that I will always willingly opt for open lawns, bridges, and waterways, even if it means a few extra steps to get there.

Resort Amenities

When choosing a Walt Disney World resort, I always recommend looking at what activities and amenities are offered. These small touches can make a big difference on check-in day, rest days, or when you just want a break from the parks.

Old Key West offers a variety of family-friendly extras, including:

  • Community Hall with crafts, games, and family activities;

  • Bike rentals and Surrey bikes for exploring the property;

  • Fishing excursions;

  • Campfire activities and s’mores in the evenings;

  • Movies Under the Stars;

  • Playgrounds (there are three playground on property!);

  • Tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and basketball courts;

  • Jogging Trail and fitness center; and

  • Golf (additional fee).

This Would Be the Ideal Resort For You If...

You’re looking for a calm, spacious, and home-like resort that still offers all the perks of Disney magic. Whether you're a family with young children or traveling with extended family, Old Key West gives you room to breathe, unwind, and create memories at your own pace.

Additionally, if you have a golfer in the family, or are planning to spend a lot of time at the resort, this is a wonderful option for you.

Check out why Paige Landrum, one of our AMAAB travel advisors, loves Old Key West:

"I always recommend Old Key West to families who want a quieter, more spacious resort stay. The extra space in the villas make it easy to keep toddlers on schedule, and the slower pace gives you a true vacation feeling."
