Ahoy Maties! Are you ready to set sail with Captain Mickey and Minnie but you’re a bit unsure of what you need to know? Do you need a few tips to become more comfortable with a new type of MAGICAL vacation?
Well you have come to the right place! Our A Mouse and A Beach crew is filled with Disney Cruise Line fans! Even better, we are very experienced and knowledgeable in what you need to know for your first Disney Cruise. We decided to compile a list of our Top 10 tips and tricks for your next Disney Cruise:
Number One: If you get a chance to go to Castaway Cay (Disney's private island stop in The Bahamas), make sure you walk to the Island from the ship and don't take the tram your first time visiting. Walking allows you to see some of the fabulous character meets on the way to the pristine beaches of Castaway Cay and get some excellent views and picture shots!
Number Two: Plan a hotel stay before your cruise. This one is a must we always recommend as travel hiccups can happen at any time. Ever heard of the saying “the plane waits for no one?" Well, that's very true for cruises as well. The boat won't wait if you are delayed. Staying at a Disney Resort the day before (if you're sailing out of Port Canaveral) also enables you to immerse yourself in the magic before your cruise even starts. We can definitely help with adding this to you Disney vacation package.
Number Three: Order a late night snack for room service. Disney cruise has free room service with a few specialty items like the popular Mickey Ice Cream Bars. Nothing says magic like late night Mickey shaped ice cream!
Number Four: Order a Drink BEFORE the shows start. Wanna cut down on costs?! Go to the pool deck and get a FREE drink to bring into the show with you!
Number Five: Go to the open house for Kids Club. Kids Club has an open house for all ages during the first part of your cruise. Here you can sign up your kids officially and see what this area is like. Parents can also ask any questions they have to feel more confident before the first drop off.
Number Six: Back to Castaway Cay... grab a drink for the walk back to the ship. Not only is it
refreshing, but it also ensures you will have a fun walk back as you chat about your magical day!
Number Seven: Book your cruise in advance. We recommend at least 200 days prior to the sailing. This typically gives you the most affordable pricing before it increases as capacity reaches the limit. It also allows time to pay off your cruise. Final cruise payment is typically due at the 120 day mark (depending on your state room category and length of cruise) and you'll want to ensure you get the best opportunity to book your activities-- and these go FAST. Our crew definitely helps with advising through this process and will help you know the best practices to hopefully secure your wish list!
Number Eight: Pack a first day bag! Your room isn't ready until around 1-2 so you will want to pack things in a carry-on that you’re family will need need as soon as you board. We suggest things such as sunscreen, bathing suits, sandals, a cover up, your wallet/passports, and any medications you might need.
Number Nine: Going with teenagers?! They can still have fun with their family, right?! Teenagers love independence and having a say in the vacation plans. Allow them to help you plan your excursions but also give them the freedom to have some space and check out "Vibe,” a teen club onboard DCL ships.
Number Ten: Book with a travel advisor from A Mouse and A Beach! Not only do we know what we are doing through personal experience, but we will prepare our clients fully for the most magical cruise on earth!
