Why Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland Brings Out the Kid in Everyone

Back in November, my family and I joined the AMAAB team on a trip to Disneyland in sunny Southern California! I am originally from California so Disneyland is my home park and I love any chance I can get to visit. It truly feels like home.
When I talk to clients who have been to Walt Disney World but not (yet) Disneyland, they always ask what makes it so special and why they should go. One of the big reasons is there are unique attractions and areas at Disneyland that Walt Disney World does not have. Toontown happens to be one of them and it brings back my core childhood memories. I could not wait to get back to Disneyland and explore everything Toontown has to offer. You feel like a kid again. It is truly great for those of all ages and those with sensory needs. It’s a wonderful cartoon neighborhood where Mickey and friends live. Colorful, vibrant AND characters actively present!

What a treat it is to be able to visit Mickey and Minnie’s house. You truly feel transported into one of Walt’s cartoons and you get to do a self-guided walkthrough tour of their homes! If you’re lucky, you might be able to say hi to Mickey and Minnie as well. What makes Disneyland’s Toontown especially magical is how interactive it is. Unlike many ride-heavy lands, Toontown encourages kids to explore, touch, climb, and play at their own pace. It’s a perfect reset area when everyone needs a break—but still want to be immersed in the Disney magic. There are wide open spaces, quieter corners, and hands-on play areas that don’t rely on screens or loud effects. CenTOONial Park in particular offers space to run, relax, or just sit on the grass and recharge.
You also have these great attractions in Toontown:
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway - read about the differences between this attraction and the one Disney’s Hollywood Studios here.
Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster - a fun kid sized coaster that is one of a kind!
CenTOONial Park - this is an interactive playzone with water features and grassy areas to explore and relax
Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard & Donald Duck’s Pond - playful and sensory focused areas
Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin - a CLASSIC spinning ride and unique to Disneyland

There’s even some fun dining and shopping:
Cafe Daisy, Good Boy Grocers, special toontown popcorn buckets at a fun cart near Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster plus there’s EnginEAR souvenirs!

If Disneyland—especially Toontown—has been calling your name, I’d love to help you plan a trip that feels just right for your family. As a California native and Disneyland lover, I specialize in creating personalized, stress-free Disney vacations, including family-focused itineraries. My planning services are complimentary, and I’d love to help you bring the magic to life.
