If you’re heading to Walt Disney World soon, especially with little ones, being prepared can make a big difference. Disney does a great job offering convenience items for purchase, but that often comes with a high price tag. Our crew would love to help with your next Disney parks vacation to make the entire process much smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved. Our A Mouse and A Beach Travel Advisors are ready to help!
Now on to helping you feel prepared for your next magical vacation!

As a travel planner who loves Walt Disney World, and a mom of two young kids, I always recommend families pack a few necessities that can save you money while in the parks. Here are some of the best things to buy in advance so you’re ready for the parks, and don’t end up paying double once you're there.
1. Autograph Book and Pen
Character meet-and-greets are a fan favorite in our house, and having an autograph book ready saves us money and time. Add a clickable pen or marker that won’t get lost easily.
Pro-tip: If you like Sharpies, be sure to bring your own from home as you can't find these in the parks.
2. Reusable Water Bottles
Skip buying bottled water and opt to bring your own water bottles. Disney has refill stations, but I recommend stopping at Quick Service locations throughout the park for free cups of (ice cold) water. Bringing your own water bottle is both convenient and cost-effective.
Pro-tip: If your stroller is short on cup holders, grab carabiners to clip your water bottles on!
3. Disney-Themed Outfits and Ears
We buy all of our outfits and ears ahead of time. You will typically save money this way. Just make sure you read reviews, because it could be a lower quality outfit than what you would buy from the Disney store. For Mickey ears, you can find cute ones online, and you can even get personalized ones from sites like Etsy. I find that I like the ones online better than at the parks because even though they may not be the same quality, they are much lighter. This means I can wear them longer without getting a headache.
Pro-tip: If the outfit appears to not be as comfortable upon arrival, think through a pair of clothes that you can pack and change into or wear something underneath to avoid potential midday breakdowns.

4. Light-Up Toys or Glow Sticks
If you plan to watch nighttime shows or parades, these are great to have on hand. Kids will want something glowing once they see others with it, and what’s sold in the parks can be costly.

5. Small Toys or Activities for Line Waits
Even if you have Lightning Lanes, you’ll still wait in some lines. Having something small for younger kids can help pass the time. Some of our go-to items are stickers, fidget spinners, or even small lollipops or candy. For older kids you can actually download the Play Disney Parks app and the family can enjoy trivia and games together.
Pro-tip: Use bubble wands as a fun activity to do if utilizing rider switch.
6. Disposable Ponchos and Stroller Cover
Afternoon rain is almost a guarantee in Florida during the summer. Grab a multi-pack of ponchos ahead of time, and you’ll definitely save money! Ponchos allow you to stay dry without hauling around bulky rain gear. Also bring a stroller cover if you have a stroller with you - most stroller parking is outside and uncovered, so even if you go inside to wait out the storm, chances are your stroller will have to wait in the rain.
Pro-tip: If you don't have a stroller cover, an additional poncho will be a good option and help keep the stroller dry if placed properly.
7. Friendly Snacks for Kids of All Ages
You’re allowed to bring your own food into the parks, and this is one of the best ways for us to avoid meltdowns or long snack lines. My toddlers are picky eaters, so I like to bring snacks that my kids are used to and enjoy. Some of our favorites are Uncrustables, goldfish, applesauce pouches, and granola bars. Kids of all ages (even those who are older in years and young at heart) will appreciate having something when those bellies start to rumble.
8. Noise-Canceling Headphones
Some children get overwhelmed by loud sounds, especially during fireworks or indoor rides. A pair of headphones can make those experiences much more comfortable.
Pro-tip: If you book your next magical vacation with one of our A Mouse and A Beach advisors, then we will help walk you through scenarios like this and have recommendations for where to stand or what to do to ensure your family has a wonderful experience.
9. Stroller Identifier
There are a lot of strollers in the parks, and they often get moved around by Cast Members. Don't panic if this happens to you... simply look and find your stroller by the decorations you placed on it prior to your magical day! Use a bright tag, ribbon, or even a luggage handle wrap to spot yours easily. (If you’re a client of mine, you may just receive something special in the mail just for this!).
10. MagicBand(+) or Lanyard
Your smartphone can add MagicMobile within the Disney app if you want to not have anything additional to keep up with. However, if you don't want to always have to get your phone out at entry points, you can link park tickets to a MagicBand(+) or use a key card obtained by your hotel or guest services. Either way, having a hands-free option like a wristband or lanyard makes entry, lightning lanes, and PhotoPass access much easier. While you can easily buy MagicBands in the park, if you check the Disney website, you can find the ones that are on sale. You'll also have a full selection of bands offered, instead of the limited inventory that may be in that particular shop. Plus, buying it ahead of time lets you have it set up before your trip!
A little prep goes a long way at Disney, especially when traveling with toddlers. Buying these items ahead of time will not only save you money, but also help you feel more prepared and less stressed during your trip.
