West Coast Thrills

Universal Studios Hollywood

Did you know Universal Studios Hollywood encompasses 70% of an unincorporated island city called Universal City?! This studio opened up over 100 years ago and is still an actively running studio today that guests can visit during their trip out west.

I grew up a stone’s throw from this studio in a little small town you may know as Burbank. It was a dream! As a local, we had annual passes every year and I remember visiting Universal all the time. Over the years, my favorite attractions and sights to see were Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, Lucy: The Tribute, E.T., and The World-Famous Studio tour. I thought driving past the Bates Motel and Alfred Hitchcock’s office was the coolest thing!

Universal Studios Hollywood originated back in 1964 as a backup lot tour of productions and dressing rooms to generate profit. Over the years, it grew into the theme park we all know and love. It now averages 9 million visitors annually! One of the beast features about this park is that it has The World-Famous Studio Tour which allows guests to go behind the scenes and observe how the movie magic happens. It is truly unique and one of the best perks about Universal Studios Hollywood. Did I mention it is also included with your ticket purchase?

Another difference about this park is that It consists of two areas: The Upper Lot & The Lower Lot. These are separated by “The Stairway” and linked together for guests to visit both areas during their park visit.

The Upper Lot is home to Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, Silly Swirly Fun Ride, Super Silly Fun Land, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash!, Waterworld, Dreamworks Theatre, The Simpsons Ride, & The World-Famous Studio Tour. Last, but certainly not least, is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter which opened in 2016 and includes Harry Potter & The Forbidden Journey, the Frog Choir, Olivanders Wand Shop, Flight of the Hippogriff, & Triwizard Spirit Rally. Lots of fan bases would be pleased to explore the Upper Lot!

The Lower Lot houses DinoPlay, Raptor Encounter, Transformers: The Ride-3D, Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, Jurassic World: The Ride, and Mario Kart: Bowsers Challenge! This brand new area, Super Nintendo World, has incredible theming throughout and definitely makes the long walk to The Lower Lot worthwhile! They also have mini attractions where you can interact with your Power-up Band and really get involved with the game.

While you’re enjoying your time out on the west coast, be sure to explore Universal's CityWalk for great shopping, activities, and dining. This is a great area where tickets are not required and visitors can simply walk around and enjoy.

Catch a movie.

Grab a bite.

Have the perfect night!
